This healthy smoothie is especially great if you have been indulging a little too much in sweets or junk food. For as many veggies and greens that are packed in, it tastes surprisingly great! The lemon adds a good source of vitamin C, one of the most powerful antioxidants found in nature, and also contains flavonoids which aid in attacking and preventing certain types of cancer cells from growing. Ginger and lemon also hold powerful anti-inflammatory benefits which are great for people who suffer from arthritis. Ginger helps to promote healthy sweating, which is a great way to get rid of extra toxins that collect in the body. Spirulina aids with lowering blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Frozen watermelon or pineapple can be added for a little extra sweetness! Kids tend to be initially suspicious about green colored beverages just because of the fact that they remind them of vegetables or lettuce, but usually after they take a sip of this nutritious but delicious smoothie, they are surprised at how tasty it actually is! My oldest daughter Adia (6), is always asking me to make this smoothie for her, and I take full advantage of the opportunity for her to get a large dose of greens as well as powerful antioxidants.
